In conjunction with BVN, JPW designed the new landscape areas for Charles Sturt University in Port Macquarie, New South Wales. The new landscape design acknowledges and builds upon the unique qualities of the site – a regional campus in a quintessential Australian bush landscape.

The design features three significant courtyards surrounded by three- and four-storey teaching, learning and research buildings. These academic courtyards are a series of vital landscape areas and outdoor rooms that support the university community, and strengthen the native bushland through the extension of the eastern wetland landscape into the body of the campus. A connecting spine provides a meandering link through the site via the courtyards, pedestrian paths and cycle paths.

The considered materials selection has enabled the campus buildings to be unified in a way that is appropriate to both climate and place.
