Brisbane's Botanic Gardens are recognised as Queensland's premier subtropical botanic gardens , displaying distinctly different gardens arranged in thematic and geographical displays. In May 2015, an extension to the Gardens was opened to the public signifying the completion of the biggest extension to the Gardens in over 40 years. The new family friendly area features an interactive kitchen garden, a forest walk, a nature themed playground and an entertainment amphitheatre. The defining feature of this welcomed new green space is an 18 megalitre lagoon which will help drought proof the Gardens in the future. The park is connected via intentionally wide paved paths which were created using Adbri Masonry's interlocking Trihex pavers. These heavy duty pavers were selected for their versatility and non directional aesthetic which ensures the pavements effortlessly compliments the show-piece natural environment. The Trihex path snakes through the stunning 4 hectare landscape providing a new running track, cycle way, pedestrian path for the community as well as serving as an access road for service vehicles.
