The use of Austral Alabaster smooth face concrete blocks made perfect sense for this new beach house located on the shore of Pearl Beach. The owners requested to have a building that required minimal maintenance and so a simple palette of face concrete block, off-form concrete, teak and terrazzo for floors was used.

Face concrete block and off-form concrete are materials that we enjoy to work with as there is a sense of truth with them as they clearly and brilliantly show the structural arrangement of the building. To help with the transparency of the house and to create a sense of lightness to the cavity sliding doors and shutters are used.

The design team from Porebski Architects included Andre Porebski (project architect), Caomhan Murphy (design and site architect), Alex Porebski and Irene Sheridan-Miller. The building was magnificently constructed by Rod Pengilley of Kendale Homes who paid considerable attention to the details as noted by the crisp line and careful placement of the blocks ensuring that the mortar lines are consistent across the project inside and out; and special attention to the off-form concrete that has been used for beams, seats, planter boxes and external steps.
