ABOUT CMAA

The Concrete Masonry Association of Australia (CMAA) is the peak body that represents the concrete masonry manufacturers of Australia. This includes bricks, blocks, pavers and retaining walls.

We support the concrete masonry industry by providing technical information and advice to architects, engineers, specifiers and educators. We publish technical manuals and data relating to concrete block walling, concrete paving, permeable paving and concrete masonry retaining walls, which are free to download from this website. The Association also conducts workshop courses and provides a technical advisory service for masonry design queries.

The CMAA is governed by a board of directors elected by member companies. The national Technical Committee monitors, develops and researches the technical issues faced by the concrete masonry industry. The committee also provides direction and support to Standards Australia in the development of Masonry Codes and Standards.

We also develop Masonry Design Courses for undergraduate and master’s students in association with the Queensland University of Technology and the University of Wollongong. CMAA works closely with the clay industry to support and endorse the Australian Brick and Blocklaying Foundation (ABBTF), an organisation that trains brick and blocklaying apprentices. The NSW Promotional Committee is responsible for hosting and executing the biennial Golden Trowel Competition, a national blocklaying competition to encourage excellence among apprentices while recognising the valuable skills of young people in a skill-shortage trade.

Each year, in association with Think Brick Australia, the CMAA presents two Awards for innovative use of masonry in architecture – the Kevin Borland Masonry Award and the Bruce Mackenzie Landscape Award. These awards are part of the Think Brick Awards, Australia’s richest design awards, and offer a cash prize of $10,000 per category to reward the best architectural designs in concrete masonry.

The Concrete Masonry Association of Australia is an industry body and does not sell or supply any masonry products.
